Scholarships & Awards for Students with Disabilities
Lois I. Hogan Grant for Students with Disabilities
This grant gives $1000 during the Spring semester. It is available to a student with a disability who has current employment or has
been offered a semester or summer job/internship, paid or nonpaid, and is in
need of extra disability related financial assistance. For example, the award
could cover the costs of secretarial assistance (if not already covered by an
employer) or transportation costs while on an internship. Students are eligible if they have a firm internship or student job offer
by the application deadline each semester.

It is open to all eligible students with emphasis on recruiting historically
underrepresented minority and women physical sciences and engineering students.
Each fellowship is worth up to $200,000, depending on the university a Fellow
attends. All newly selected NPSC Fellows receive two paid summers of internship

DSP Student Grant
Students with disabilities who are eligible for Student Financial Aid may
apply for the DSP Student Grant to assist them in purchasing assistive technology
and/or equipment for disability-related needs. The Grant recognizes the unique
needs of students with disabilities for assistive technology or specialized
equipment that either improves access to instructional material or promotes
physical independence. The DSP Grant is intended for improvement of access,
not as an emergency source of funding. Student Grants are not legally mandated
academic accommodations nor are they a part of the Disabled Students' Program
legally mandated services. Guidelines and application timeframes are available
on the DSP webpage.
Section Club Grants
This is a one time only grant of up to $1000. The grant is made with the expectation
that it will alleviate the student's financial distress and allow him/her to
continue their studies. Preference is given to graduate students or seniors
in their last year at UC Berkeley, who have maintained a minimum G.P.A. of
3.5. In order to apply a specialist must refer students to the Section Club
in writing. Letter should include contact information such as email and/or
telephone number. Students must also submit a letter to the Section Club indicating
the reason for their request and include documentation of G.P.A. Application
documents should be submitted to Pamela Brain so that she can consolidate them
and send to the Section Club liaison.
Upon receiving paperwork, a decision by the Section Club is usually made within two weeks. If the grant is approved, a check will be delivered to the specialist to give to the student. Students must then send a note to Peggy Fuerstenau to confirm they have received the grant check.
Please note: For immediate help in an emergency for which an amount of $500 would suffice, you may directly call Section Club S.O.S Chair, Dolores Williamson, at (510) 540-8492, or Gretchen Carlson at (510) 540-8654. No letters or minimum G.P.A is required.
